At the time of landing Maui was very undersocialised with both humans and other dogs. In fact he would only entertain his owners touching him. The staff have poured their heart and soul into this nervous boy and now he is ready to find the perfect home to continue taking him on his journey. Maui will need a home with experience of the breed OR other breeds that are similar in nature. He can still be shy and aloof with those he does not know and is not a great mixer with strange dogs. He would be best placed into a home with a larger breed calm female as this is what he has lived with in the past but is not overly keen on other males.
Out and about now on walks Maui walks like a dream with the aid of a headcollar, he is starting to grasp the concept of lose lead walking on a flat collar only but that is still very much a work in progress. He is now able with the use of cream cheese to pass happily and ignore other dogs out on walks. Although he is gaining confidence with road work there is still more time and input needed to be spent there. Maui grasps the basics of housetraining and does work hard to keep his kennel clean emptying at every given opportunity so we do not envisage this being an issue in a home. However, Wolfdogs can be notorious for destructive tendancies if left for long periods alone without their owners so a home with someone around all or most of the time will be extremely important. Maui does now understand and enjoy the concept of enrichment and food feeding toys and games and this has ensured that with a little more work he will be okay with another dogs company left for a short period of time once settled. Maui does enjoy travelling once he has had time to settle into the vehicle and a routine.
Maui is not suitable for rehoming with pre teen children and can not co exist with cats or other small furries and does have a natural prey drive. He also ideally needs a home with space and some land attached or at least a fair sized garden he can stretch his legs. Due to still having quite a timid disposition he would be quite a flight risk off lead and startled.
