Popeye

Popeye is a 2 1/2 year old Collie x Greyhound. Absolutely fabulous boy.
Beautiful Popeye is now ready to find his forever sofa. When Popeye landed with us he was a frustrated ball of energy. He had melt downs on walks and was dog reactive. His reactivity wasn’t and is not aggression he is the softest lad ever. However he does have high intelligence and is a busy dog who can easily become bored, pushing him over threshold.

Popeye needs a sensible female sighthound to take the lead. Not another young female lurcher but a bossy female Greyhound. A female that is more self serving and will use him for fun when she feels like it but put him in his place when she doesn’t.

When placed with a strong willed female here at the kennels Popeye instantly deferred, he took the confidence given, stopped the reactive behaviour and allowed her to signal that there was nothing to be worried about.

Aswell as good physical excercise Popeye will also need his brain working. Food enrichment and puzzle games will be a must.

Although he has the energy for dog sports such as agility and flyball we do feel these will raise his emotional threshold and may reestablish old triggers and excitement. He’d be much better with calm tasking activities.

Although Popeye is here with us in kennels he is a clean boy. He toilets at every chance given. We do not envisage house training to be an issue.

He will need a home with people around more in the beginning to help him adapt and settle within the environment so his brain doesn’t escape his head.

Popeye is NOT cat friendly and would be best placed into a home with children 10 plus.

Although Popeye is at the higher scale of physical and mental ability even by Lurcher standards he does swing a little to the collie side and isnt as much of an independent thinker so he will need an owner willing to take the lead.

All that said though where humans are concerned hes a ridiculous big baby and the most loving boy going. He adores his cuddles with you and curls right in. With a little time to mature and sensible guidance we do think he will become a dog in a million. Its so sad this lad nearly lost his life at such a young age in the stray pound.

Popeye is vaccinated, kc vaccinated, de flead, de wormed and is neutered and microchipped. He will also be rehomed with 5 weeks free insurance from Agria.

Anyone wishing to offer Popeye a home would need to be willing to travel to meet him in Stoke-on-Trent with all immediate members of the family and any current resident dogs.
